Not much to say here except that many retailers in Singapore sell HDMI cables for an arm and a leg. This 15ft cable seems of decent build and simply worked out of the bag. Best of all, it cost 10X less than what they charge for 5m cables at the stores here.

Nice player, but doesn’t upgrade firmware very well. It failed with me so I returned it.

4 Stars How to set up and maintain the BD-P1000
This player actually works quite well, once you know how to properly set it up and maintain it. The unfortunate thing is that, right out of the box, it will require a firmware update. Here is everything that you need to know:

- Many of the early reviews complained that it lacked a sharp, truly hi-def picture. That is because it shipped with a faulty programmed video chip. Thankfully, the firmware updates have corrected this problem… it now delivers picture quality comparable to a PS3 (I’ve compared them on my 50″ 1080p TV).

- You will need to update the firmware for it to play the latest releases. This is not particularly difficult. You can find the latest firmware on the Samsung website, under product support. The firmware comes in the form of an ISO image. You will need to burn the ISO image to a CD-R using image burning software. I use DeepBurner, which is a freeware program that you can readily find by doing an internet search. Once you burn the ISO image to the CD-R, you simply place the disc in the player and it will perform the update.

- A number of people have complained that this player, even with the latest firmware, will not play new releases. Actually, in most cases these persons have a “full cache” problem. What this means is that the player’s memory has residual java programming hanging around, preventing it from loading some newer java-heavy discs. This is easy to fix. Simply press and hold down on the FF button on the player itself (not the remote). This will clear the cache. You will then need to go into the player’s menu and double-check the display settings, as they sometimes change as a result of this procedure. This almost always solves the problem.

- It has been my experience that when the firmware is updated, and the cache is properly cleared, the BDP-1000 will play any movie without a hitch. Using the latest firmware (at the time of this writing, version 1.6), this player works flawlessly. I have yet to encounter a blu-ray disc that it will not play. Considering that I picked this up on clearance for a very reasonable price, I am extremely satisfied. No, it will not display picture in picture video, nor can it handle BD-Live internet connectivity, as do the latest higher-end players. But it will play blu-ray movies with excellent picture quality, which is all that I really need for it do.

1 Star PLEASE AVOID AT ALL COST!
I have this player I would strongly state that you not purchase unless you $300.00 to spend what is really a “beefed up DVD player”. It won’t play any blu-ray discs past March of this year. I have called their “customer service” countless times with no resolution. They will not provide you with any up to date firmware nor any real support. The last rep I spoke to laughed at me. So do yourself a favor and shop for another brand. This is a big waste of money.

I’ve never had a single problem with this player. It is a little slow to load but that’s not a problem for me at all.. it gives me time to settle down. It works flawlessly and samsung provides free upgrades on their website. I think it’s the best player for the price.

1 Star The worse dvd player I ever purchase!!!
Where can I begin, I purchase the BD-P1000 the day it hit the shelf. That was the start of my horror story. I am a home theatre fanatic and I like the best of the best! I have two Pioneer Elite and I thought the Samsung BD-1000 would fit well with my home theatre system… But I was wrong!! It take forever for the player to start up, several firmware updates and I still have several Blu Ray Discs in my library that still doesn’t play. It get frustrating after renting a Blu-Ray movie from BlockBuster or buying them from BestBuys my Samsung BD-P1000 is not able to play them. It’s like russian roulette… some play… some don’t!!! After several phone calls to Samsung customer service, numerous firmware updates and being repaired (3) times I still have several movies in my library unable to play. So I finally got fed up and went to my local BestBuy store and purchased another Blu-Ray player. Not to mention I have a MX 3000 remote control that control all my components hidden away in the closet. That is programed to my SamSung Blu-Ray player and cost $400 to get reprogrammed I was forced to by another SamSung product. Which works fine 5 star (BD-P2550). To end this review. For the amount of $1000 I have had players $75 that work better. If you ever buy a SamSung product do your research and remember this… SamSung has the WORST customer service I have ever experienced!!!!!

I know olevia make great tv”s because i have the 47″tv by oleiva and like the 52″the 1080p is sharp and makes other 52″tv to high to buy with the same stuff,two thing to “note” the olevia 52″ is very very heavy you will need at lease three people to lift it,{note-the tv has good black level but if you want a deeper black level go to the wheel menu/ on it,it has a (black level extender)for that richer deep black}all and all the color, the picture,the sound,and the universal remote makes the olevia 52″tv hard to turn down for that price,why pay more for less…

4 Stars Good TV for a lot less money
This has many pros and a few cons. Namely it is very inexpensive for the features it carries. The picture is very good and it does deliver sharp vivid colors. It has many features such as PIP Split screen and a QAM ATSC tuner.

The only two cons, as you might expect, is that it does not deliver the darkest blacks and its very heavy.

All in all, I am very happy with my purchase. I got plenty of bang for my buck and saved enough money to buy a few accessories….

Don’t buy a Syntax Olevia! I bought one and it died almost to the day the warranty went out. Customer service said I would have to pay to ship it back and pay the parts and labor to fix it and that would cost over half of the TV’s cost. They wouldn’t offer to help with anything and they said they lost my registration card, the same one they used to call me with to ask me how I liked it a week after I bought the TV. So all I can do is to post this to every blog I can to try to inform others.

5 Stars Great 37 inch LCD at 32 inch prices
If your like me, I wanted an HDTV without paying a fortune, and this is the one to get. Under $600 at Walmart in Nov. 08. I had a Comcast tech hook up my HD box and this TV was accepting the 1080i signal even though the ad says 720p. The picture looks like a bright and vibrant professionally taken photograph! No complaints. What I really liked is sometimes the HD signal will cut off the bottom and top of the picture but the VISIO has an easy menu that quickly allows you to adjust the vertical size without distorting the picture so you can always watch a full screen. Sound quality is pretty good with the built in speakers but would be awesome with a surround sound system. I cannot imagine anyone being disappointed with the purchase of this HDTV. Nice looking TV too! Remote is simply laid out, user friendly and functional without being overly complicated. This is the VW37L model which is the newest offering from VISIO. I am a happy HDTV camper!

5 Stars First HDTV – WOW!
I’m a big techie, but this is my first HDTV.

This is only 720P, but in stores and for the size I cannot tell a quality difference. Period. Setup was easy, play around with the settings to tweak it all to your liking. TONS of inputs/outputs. Search Amazon for a cheap HDMI cable – it’ll work perfectly.

I dunno the big deal with Blu Ray, I think it’s overhyped. I have a cheapo Phillips DVD player with HDMI (it also upscans and plays divx/xvid!) – pop in Wall-E or some other beautiful movie and WOW.

Wait for blu ray to be under $100 and standard. Until then, save your money, buy this, and save some money…

1 Star Vizio poor support
I purchased 2 directly from Vizio. They arrived 3 weeks later and one was not damaged. Their customer support division is poorly managed. I had to take a picture of the TV and e-mail it to them. It then took several days for them to get in touch with me. The TV was picked up 1 week later and after waiting nearly a month they refused to send out another TV “because it was a sale item”. Instead they ignored e-mails and did not return calls. The other TV that works is average at best. I guess the old saying “you get what you paid for” is right on!! Suggest staying away from Vizio products until they learn how to take care of their customers.

This Vizio hdtv is an outstanding value and will provide the average consumer with a very satisfying viewing experience. Connected tv to existing whole house antenna system to receive over the air television and picture looks great. Programming menu to adjust picture, color etc was intuitive and simple. Remote control is wonderfully simple in its design and function. This 37″ hdtv is an excellent value and will be a welcome upgrade to anyone looking to replace an analog set.
