Toshiba 40XV640U 40 Full HD LCD HDTV 120Hz 1080p 1920 x 1080 ATSC QAM 16 9 3 x HDMI v1 3 Glossy Black

Toshiba 40XV640U 40 Full HD LCD HDTV 120Hz 1080p 1920 x 1080 ATSC QAM 16 9 3 x HDMI v1 3 Glossy Black

The Toshiba 40XV640U enhances the gaming experience by reducing game controller delay. The Gaming Mode allows the video signal to bypass select picture circuitry to shorten the overall signal to screen time. This provides an approximate 33 millisecond response improvement for 60Hz models and 48 millisecond response improvement for 120 Hz models virtually eliminating controller delay.

2 Stars Disappointing Image
We own three other Samsung LCD TVs and love them. This one, which we use in our kitchen, has been a disappointment. The image is not sharp unless you are looking at the screen directly and from about six feet or more. The screen tilts upward and is not good when mounted above eye level, as our is. It also tends to lose the signal and black out momentarily.

1 Star DONT buy this SAMSUNG
This tv stinks– wont sit right in stand

you cant angle it

blacks are gray

sound leveler does NOTHING

HD looks regular def

shiny sides reflect and looks bad, also reflects line on top of screen

shiny remote flashes what ever hits it

In HD mode you cant see dvd player graphics, you need to switch to av1 mode and then its very very dark so yo uhave to switch back!!!!

4 Stars TV review
We’re very satisfied with this TV – it’s just the right size for the viewing area and the picture is clear and the controls easy to use.

1 Star Broke after 4 months. Samsung require you to ship it to NJ for repair….
I liked this TV quite well until it abruptly broke after about four months very moderate usage (aggressive horizontal flickering transitioning into complete whiteout). Well, that happens – but the truly regrettable part is Samsung’s customer service, which as it turns out requires any TV under 26 inches to be shipped to New Jersey for repairs… I would like to add that I live in the Chicago vicinity, which by most accounts would be considered a major metropolitan area that you might think would be supported by a technician or two. Not so.

Good luck trying to get through to Samsung’s “Executive Customer Relations” department to which they transfer you when you wish to dispute having to mail your whopping TV to New Jersey. The lines are always busy and you will be on hold until you are told that your call could not be connected and that it will now be ended – “Goodbye”. Call reps managers are also not available to be spoken to and emails are never responded to. When you are told that they will call you back in “24 to 48 hours,” you are probably being misled. Those calls never happened in my case. I finally found an alternative number to this ironically labeled “executive” service department by Googling it and actually got to talk to a person after waiting for about 30 min. Unfortunately, this person also told me to ship my whopping TV to New Jersey and her manager was not available to be spoken to…

So, if you need a TV that works for more than four months and/or don’t live in New Jersey, this is probably not the TV for you.

5 Stars Great TV
I bought it two months ago. No complaints about it so far. I got a used (like new) and saved a lot. I am currently using it for my PS3 and as a monitor for my laptop. This TV is great for college students esp living in dorms.

5 Stars a great addition to our house
it fits in the space we dedicated for it. The picture is clear and has many options that are are easy to manipulate. The only problem I have right now is connecting to my PC. I buoght a VGA cable, connected to my computer and the TV but still not reception.

5 Stars Great picture easy setup
Great picture (sharp with great color fidelity)and easy setup. Sound OK (better then expected). Great selection of external interfaces. Very pleased with this purchase. Would not hesitate to recomend this product.

5 Stars Bob H.
I was very satisfied in the service I received for buying this TV through Amazon. TV is working just great. And the delivery company (PILOT FREIGHT SERVICE) was just excellent in setting up this set and making sure it was in working order. Driver even stayed until set was programmed. A great guy, and very well informed on the workings of this TV.

This is the second set I bought through Amazon. Last July I bought a 46″ Samsung HDTV and also was extremely pleased in the service in making sure set was in working order before they departed.

5 Stars Great HDTV
Gorgeous picture. Fairly easy to figure out all the features. I love the fact that the TV decides the best configuration for the picture being fed.

5 Stars Great, compact TV for a great price!
I purchased this TV second-hand, and I use it as a computer monitor. I do a significant amount of graphic design work, so color reproduction, black levels and clarity are very important to me.

Expect to spend some time playing with the settings if you want anything approximating true colors. At first I thought this was an awful TV/monitor. I spent a couple hours trying to calibrate it and, after being unable to achieve usable results, I almost sold it the next day. It took me a couple more hours of a tinkering to finally get it how it is now, but NOW it is fantastic.

It took a combination of video card settings and monitor settings. While calibrating I ensured I had a high contrast background with lots of dark colors. I played a video with lots of action and facial tones, and kept a color palette up. Then I played with the settings individually, I first got the monitor optimized: sharpness (0), contract (65), brightness(60), color(50), tint (G50/R50), color temperature (Cool2), in Dynamic mode using the “Just Scan” option and none of the stupid gimmicky software filtering they add under picture options. Then moving onto the video card settings I found that I needed to drastically alter the gamma settings to alleviate serious black-bleeding (+1.27). I also had to fool around with individual colors using the automatic monitor setup tool that comes with Nvidia video cards. Obviously, your TV and video card are going to differ from mine, but hopefully this serves as a helpful starting point.

The color reproduction and black levels are almost on par with my IPS and PVA panels that sit to the left and right respectively. Even though this is a TN, it does have very acceptable color reproduction. Now don’t get me wrong, you will not want to do any sort of graphic work on this TV, but it looks great for movies, games and general computer use.

It is sufficiently bright with the backlight on level 0 both at night and during the day.

The remote is alright. It’s quite ugly, but it’s designed with older folks in mind. The buttons are easy to hit and the backlight behind the keys makes it easily usable in a dark room.

The stand is sturdy and looks very nice and clean. The base’s rotation works well and stays where placed, it will not rotate on its own.

If you do much switching between resolutions, such as transitioning into a legacy full screen program, the monitor does take a few seconds to catch up. It is much worse than any monitor I’ve used before, but not a deal-breaker for me at all.

I can truly recommend this product, but be prepared to calibrate!

720p HD LCD TV

User Ratings and Reviews

4 Stars Good Quality
I bought this TV for the master bedroom for my husband’s birthday. He was excited. We had a few issues with the shiiping, broken the first time is came, but after it got settled, we love it. The picture is a little dark but very good for the bedroom.

1 Star Nice when it works..which isn’t right now
Bought this tv from circuit city when it was going out of business. It wouldn’t work as a regular tv not even when I hooked up several differnt antenas and multiple convertor boxes trying to get just local hd television. So I then hooked it up to my computer. It worked for a while then one day while I was playing one of my games it just went black. the green power button is still on, it even makes a sound when I turn it off (after I hold down the power button on the console or the remote for about 12 seconds. I’m just glad I have this second montior because the toshiba is black and not working. I wouldn’t recommend this piece of junk to anyone.

5 Stars Extremely Pleased
I was a little worried about purchasing a TV on line, but read the reviews on this TV and decided to take a chance. I couldn’t be more pleased. The picture is sharp and crisp. The remote works great. I have it mounted in my cabin bedroom. Makes rainy days fun. You won’t be disappointed with this TV

5 Stars Value, value, value!
Product is exactly as advertised, arrived sooner than anticipated and was in A1 condition. Toshiba seems to make a great product – the perfect TV for the kids in their play room. Can be used with their games systems, computre, DVD and as a television. Could not ask for more.

2 Stars Ok tv when it works right
I’ve had this tv for 5 months and have had numerous problems.

1:The sound goes out and you have to turn the tv off and on to get it back.

2:The screen freezes and goes bright with no sound.

3:The screen freezes and goes bright with loud anoying static.

4:No recall when you go to the same channel twice.

Note all this has happened more than three times.I have two of these tvs and the second one is having the same problem but only twice has it happened. These problems seem to be only happening with the 26 inch because I also have a 32 inch and have had no problems what so ever.I recommend another brand for 26 inch tvs.

Sony BRAVIA V Series KDL 46V5100 46 Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Black

For consumers who want an HDTV that keeps pace with fast-action movies, sports, and game play, Sony BRAVIA V-Series Flat Panel HDTVs combine Full HD 1080p performance and Motionflow 120Hz technology for an amazing viewing experience. Motionflow 120Hz takes both high-definition and standard programming a step further by increasing sharpness and detail in fast-moving images for more fluid, natural motion. In addition, BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs use proprietary Image Blur Reduction technology to further enhance the picture for even better performance. Additionally, they include seven versatile HD connections to ensure you get impressive image quality from all your HD components. Take advantage of four HDMI inputs, component and composite inputs, and a PC input, as well as a USB input that lets you play audio files from USB storage devices, or connect a compatible camera to your HDTV for a quick and easy slide show. Sony knows your home theater set-up doesn’t stop with your HDTV, which is why the BRAVIA V-Series HDTVs are compatible with BRAVIA Link Modules — including the BRAVIA Wireless Link, BRAVIA DVD Link, and BRAVIA Input Link Modules (all sold separately). The HDTVs also support BRAVIA SyncTM technology so you can control all of your compatible devices with a single remote. 5 Stars Freaking Perfect!
I am not a technically savvy person but I just wanted to say that this TV is everything you could want in an an LCD 46′ TV! The picture is beautiful, the sound is great and the control is easy to use. Buy this TV!

4 Stars Beautiful Television but…
..I have had to send back two of them to the store simply because the promise of multiple HDMI connections was falling flat. In other words if you have at least 3 HDMI inputs- Sony AV/System/Sony PS3 and any other HDMI Sony product to switch to you may or may not experience the SIGNAL not being picked up as you move around the TVs inputs.

If all you want is Cable plus a DVD player via HDMI or Bravia Sync you may never experience my challenges. In short the HDMI inputs on at least 2 purchases have not worked beyond 7 days of usage. STILL This television is Beautiful when alls well. So far I am good with one of my replacements and awaiting the other sometime this week. Yes I love this 46″5100 so much I bought 2 of em..in spite of the HDMI input challenges.

5 Stars From TX
I just received the TV yesterday and so far I think is excellent. For an unbeatable price with Amazon ($1350, no tax, no shipping) this is the best option available. The HD channels and the XBOX 360 picture is amazing.

Beside the TV itself, the delivery was outstanding. Very fast, they unpacked the TV, plug it in and done, we were watching it.

I totally agree with the review regarding the reflection in the screen, my family room is very bright and in the middle of the day you just see a little reflection when there is a black scene in the screen, would have been bad with the glossy screens like Samsung.

5 Stars Breathtaking…nothing else will describe it!
Standing in front of a wall of TV’s, BB showing a advertising disc with maybe 480p content on it this Sony caught my eye! I looked at the Sammy LED but it wasn’t what I expected (I know its the first model) The brightness was just over the top, whites actually looked to bright over everything else.

Needless to say I picked up the Sony Bravia 46″ V5100! This is a replacement for a 32″ in my bedroom, so I hurried home to make the swap!

Out of the box this TV looks amazing even off! I love the black, not a big fan of these new sets with “color” but that’s just me!

I pulled this beast out of the box and mounted the wall bracket hardware to the back. Hoisted it up onto the wall and made the connections (Xbox 360/HDMI)

I pressed the power button and WOW! The colors on even the initial screen were just gorgeous! I went thru a few settings but mainly just wanted to see what she could do. I fired up Finding Nemo, and was blown away, the colors are just insane…literally they pop off the screen. I followed this up with a quick game of COD4 which also to no surprise looked amazing!

Everything is razor sharp right out of the box, hopefully tonight I’ll get a chance to run a good calibration and setup but I’m really amazed at the quality of this TV!

I cant wait to see a Blu Ray player connected to this set…I can only imagine how beautiful it will be (I was tempted to pull the one out of the living room but it was getting late)

The sound is well…TV sound, and I never buy a new TV based on its speakers. For normal everyday listening they do sound pretty nice, even at higher levels…in fact the simulated surround sound is pretty good on HD broadcasts (over air) I did notice it doesn’t handle the surround sound on movies and games as well but that’s to be expected!

If your looking for an excellent TV at an excellent price this is the way to go! I’m gonna post any problems here after tonight’s setup and more in depth use…somehow I don’t think ill have much to type!

5 Stars Everything I wanted, and more!
All the previous “rave” reviews are accurate. This was the best purchase (of many) we’ve made in quite a while. This TV has changed our lifestyle quite a bit! It is soooo great to watch with the vivid, clear, picture.

Great internal sound system. No screen glare. Comprehensive menu for fine tuning. Only improvement I would like to see, is a faster channel changing response; but it’s still quicker than our other (Sharp) flat screen.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars Wow!
This TV is fantastic. Just a month before we purchased a 42″ Sharp Aquos, and as fantastic as it is, it does not even compare to this one. The picture is fantastic and the way it links to the Bluray player is cool. We are very pleased.

5 Stars Unbelievable!!!
I was blown away at the price for this tv. Adorama Camera always has unbelievable deals…The Sharp Aquos is 120 hertz refresh rate, 1080p, detachable speaker and a very classy finish – kind of a black matte around the tv. I like it much better than the smooth shiny plastic most tvs have.

4 Stars Still happy after a whole year
I purchased this TV about a year ago and watch it daily. I really enjoy the display, even in well lit areas. The matte finish was non-negotiable for me. The room I have it in has many light sources, and even though they are all visible from the dispaly, none are reflected back from the matte finish on the display. Compare that to the new Samsung’s that are extremely reflective and are best used in darker areas.

When I was deciding which display to purchase, I visited Best Buy several times to compare this and other sets. To this day, the LC52SE94U remains the best looking set on the wall, at least to me. If I had it to do over again, I’d have bought the same TV. When I win the lottery, I’ll get the bigger version.

Here’s my rundown of pro’s and con’s:

Pros:

* Matte display

* Attractive bezel

* Removable Speakers

* Lots of inputs

* 120-Hz much more pleasing to the eye than the competition

Cons:

* Lack of DVI input

* Auto Brightness feature annoying

* Stand does not swivel

If you’re mounting this to the wall, and have a single HDMI cable coming from an upconverting receiver, it’s nearly perfect. It will be interesting to see what OLED TV’s look like and how it will affect the price of existing LCD TV’s.

3 Stars great LCD bad pixels
Update #3/ BB has picked it up and I will check my account for a credit today. So far BB is perfect. Be sure to leave your TV on for 36 hours and then check a channel with a blank screen for stuck on pixels. These will only get worse folks.

Original review,

BB delivered this a few hours ago and I have it up and running without a hitch. It is as thin in places as the Samsung 850 but not over the whole cabinet. Picture is perfect. The manual doesn’t mention 120MHZ video but Demo Mode does

“You can select the image from 3 types of demo mode.

Mode 1: 120Hz Fine motion advanced with the picture.

Mode 2: 120Hz Fine motion advanced.

Mode 3: AQUOS net.”

Advanced menu says

“Fine Motion Advanced

Use Fine Motion Advanced to view fast-action video

more clearly.

On: For obtaining a clearer image.

Off: No adjustment.

Fine Motion Advanced may cause image noise. If this

occurs, turn the function “Off”.”

So I am not sure what all that means and will be testing it over the next few days to see what is up with the 120MHZ.

So far a very fine LCD with no problems. It tagged my free 21U on the HDMI inputs and allowed me to lable it as BD21U.

Stand by for more info later.

Update/the speaker terminals and external speaker bar rocks. I assume you could hook up a couple of speakers to those outputs?

Update2/ the series “”"Sharp LC-52XS1U-S”"”is the thin one and not the 94 series limited edition. I did not know this since none of the stores had the 94 series on display. I am still happy with the product but may have got the Samsung 850 if I knew that. Maybe. LOL/still a great TV.

Bad news//second day and bad pixels. At this point in time I am seeing how painful the [...] pickup/return/credit will be. Since I got a geek squad install and several free items I am wondering if that will all get credited correctly(what a mess plus they hauled off the boxes). If it does I will post the good news here.

5 Stars great TV
This is an outstanding TV. Bright clear picture, clean motion, lots of inputs. I considered the comparable Samsungs but did not like the shiny screen or frame. The picture quality was indistinguishable to my eyes in the store. I ultimately settled on Sharp due to the reports of extraordinary customer service for Sharp vs. much less satisfaction with Samsung customer service. I have not been disappointed with the Sharp so far.

Update – After nearly 6 weeks, the wall mount finally arrived. Thumbs up for Sharp, thumbs down for Abe’s of Maine.

I would have rather purchased the TV from Amazon, but they do not sell this model direct. So, I bought from Abe’s of Maine, who offered no tax, free shippping and a free wall mount. This made their price substantially less than other vendors; moreover, Abe’s was highly rated as a vendor. My experience? I cannot recommend Abe’s of Maine (actually, Abe’s of New Jersey). After I ordered the TV online, I got an e-mail to call them to discuss the order. Not surprisingly, a high pressure salesman tried to get me to upgrade everything from the mode of delivery, to the free wall mount, to an extended warranty, even to a different TV. I did upgrade the delivery as what came for free was “curbside delivery” and got a mount that was thinner (and tiltable) compared to the “free mount” that was included with the TV which was not tiltable. After about 2.5 weeks, the TV showed up. Delivery was quick and easy and the driver helped me remove the TV from the box and set it up. But the wall mount I ordered was not included, forcing me to scramble to find a solution to put the TV on temporarily. So far, I am still waiting for the wall mount, more than a week after reporting it missing.

Bottom line – This Sharp is one fine TV. Abe’s of Maine was disappointing.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars the best
The tv came in three days it was delivered by a nice couple who carried it in. it was better than going to a store and buying it by the way no store by me had this size. i will buy here again

5 Stars Incredible
I bought this tv a little over a month ago at a national electronic retailer for $800.00. I’m glad I got this make and model. The picture is incredible. I run an XBOX 360 and games look awesome. For instance, my wife watched me play Oblivion: Elder Scrolls and she said it was amazing compared to a tube tv (and I was using composite cables with the tube!).

I must warn you that cable (480) looks awful and in fact, this tv convinced me to drop cable all together and simply pick up the local digital signal, which looks amazing. For instance, CSI: Miami is simply stunning and you can tell these shows are made for 780 or 1080i viewing. Any show live in 1080i comes across so clear you feel like you can touch them. Regular DVD viewing is mediocre, but that’s not the tv’s fault, the tv is built for higher quality. Blue ray or streaming HD is simply astonishing.

You’ll have the necessary hook-up with 3 HDMI and Composite, etc. I doubt anyone will run out of connectors. There is a USB flashdrive (2.0) on the side with a set of composite connectors. We were watching family photos and they came out incredibly bright and clear. The side connects make for easy connection if you mount the tv on the wall.

The sound quality is mediocre but the speakers are hidden making for a truly clean looking interface. The speakers get the job done but nothing special. You can fiddle around with the audio and does improve the sound somewhat but don’t expect THX or anything. I’m guessing most people will be using some sort of external speaker hook-up anyway.

There are nifty embellishments too, for instance you can change the status light (red-off, blue-on, turn status on-off). For instance, I have my set-up to the red indicator light is on when the tv is off and the indicator turns off when I turn the tv on. Otherwise, you can have the light blue. I do this so not to be distracted when watching tv or movies. In addition, you can label the connectors. So, I have my one HDMI selector for “game console” and my surround sound as “dvd/audio system”. You can also adjust tv settings on the fly, without having to navigate thru an entire menu option and screen.

Again, the visuals are simply stunning and so are capabilities to alter the visuals depending on what you are watching. For instance, there is a video game mode, which highlights the screen around its sides. This is not crucial but makes for better gaming. The cinema mode deepens colors and varies the white gradient. And finally, this tv does a great job deciphering black variances and grays.

You can’t beat the price for the quality and I dare anyone to find something overly negative about this particular model. You won’t be disappointed! I would recommend this tv to my best friend and to my enemies!

5 Stars Great TV for a Small Room
This TV looks great in my apartment. Do better TVs exist? Absolutely. Do they cost a LOT more? Absolutely. I have had no regrets of this purchase.

5 Stars Fabulous!
We are extremely pleased with this TV. It was easy to set up, even though the stand screws were a bit funny, like others here have mentioned. However, only 1 of the 4 screws gave us trouble, and that was about 30 seconds or less.

Our prior set was pretty crummy, so I suppose anything short of nothing would be an improvement! However, the picture on this LG is awesome, especially the HD channels. The sound is fine for us and we don’t have surround. I guess if we did, we’d be even happier. For us, it is just great.

If you do NOT like glossy screens, this is the set for you. The matte finish is perfect and there is no glare from any angle. We would highly recommend this set if you need something in the 37″ size.

5 Stars Very happy customer
This 37-Inch 1080p LG TV has a fantastic picture. The color is bright and sharp. The design is crisp and clean. Everything we wanted to know about the TV was in the description and specs in the ad on Amazon. We’re very happy with this TV.

User Ratings and Reviews

5 Stars delivered as promised
The television was delivered intact and quickly. I am very satisfied with the service.

5 Stars Excellent small TV
I purchased this small Toshiba TV to replace the 1980′s antique in our travel trailer. I had also been considering buying a small TV for our kitchen counter. This is the perfect size for both locations. So far, I have only used it in the kitchen, but it fits well on the counter and I am very pleased with the picture and sound quality. I actually think the remote control is superior to the one that came with our 40″ Samsung, and I don’t notice the time lag in changing channels being much different from the Samsung. I have not yet used the DVD player (other than testing to make sure it works), but I predict I will use it a lot when I am staying in our travel trailer. I was pleased to be able to purchase a name-brand TV at a reasonable price, and I would definitely recommend the Toshiba to anyone who is looking for a small, easy-to-relocate television.

5 Stars Good little television
This TV is very nice, good quality, sharp picture. As I had seen in other reviews there is quite a delay between channels when changing them but all in all it’s something you can get used to and it is not too troublesome. It picks up all the channels and is a good well known brand. I’m happy with it.

3 Stars Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV – not perfect but delivers great picture
Toshiba 15LV505 15.6-Inch Widescreen LCD TV — The complaints made in other reviews are true re long delay between functions (takes 4-5 seconds for picture/sound to appear when you turn on T.V., and same when changing channels). Also you’ve got to turn the volume way way up to turn it up. But, the picture is very sharp and clear — much better even, annoyingly so, than my Sharp Aquos flatscreen hooked up to Cable in the living room. Makes a neat little T.V. for my little kitchen; it delivers the important stuff — a good picture. But if you’re a Type-A personality and have no patience, not the T.V. for you. Haven’t tried the DVD player so can’t report on that feature.

5 Stars Great LCD TV with built in DVD
When I read the other reviews, I said I will buy this TV. I am very pleased with Toshiba, the quality, size and the DVD are perfect for my needs. Great find, good price and quick delivery. Thanks again Amazon for a great purchase.
